Retinal photography
We believe in harnessing the power of cutting-edge technology to provide our patients with the highest standard of eye care. One such technology we utilise is retinal photography, a non-invasive imaging technique that allows us to capture detailed images of the retina, providing valuable insights into your eye health and aiding in the early detection of eye conditions.
What is retinal photography?
Retinal photography involves taking high-resolution images of the retina, which is the light-sensitive tissue lining the back of the eye. These images provide our optometrists with a clear view of the retina’s structures, including blood vessels, optic nerve, and macula. By examining these images, we can detect abnormalities, monitor changes over time, and assess overall retinal health.
The benefits of retinal photography
Early detection of eye conditions: Retinal photography allows for the early detection of eye conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, glaucoma, and retinal detachment. Identifying these conditions in their early stages is crucial for initiating timely treatment and preserving vision.
Monitoring eye health: For patients with existing eye conditions or risk factors, retinal photography enables us to monitor the progression of disease and the effectiveness of treatment over time. By comparing images taken at different intervals, we can track changes in the retina and adjust management strategies accordingly.
Patient education: Retinal photography provides visual evidence of eye health and disease, allowing our optometrists to educate patients about their condition and the importance of proactive eye care. Seeing their own retinal images helps patients understand the impact of their lifestyle choices and the need for regular eye exams.
Documentation and communication: Retinal photography serves as a valuable tool for documenting findings and communicating with other healthcare providers, such as ophthalmologists or primary care physicians. It facilitates collaboration and ensures that patients receive coordinated care across different specialties.
Why choose us for retinal photography?
State-of-the-art technology: We invest in advanced retinal imaging technology to ensure the highest quality images and diagnostic capabilities for our patients.
Expert interpretation: Our optometrists are highly trained in interpreting retinal images and identifying subtle abnormalities that may indicate underlying eye conditions.
Comprehensive eye care: From routine eye exams to specialised imaging techniques, we offer a full range of services to address our patients’ eye care needs with precision and expertise.

This is a fantastic independent opticians. Nothing is too much trouble for them. You are always warmly welcomed and never rushed. My eyesight is complex and Emma and Charlotte have worked so hard to maximise the sight and find the best glasses. I particularly like the continuity of an independent optician, the staff know you and you don't have to explain everything to a stranger on each visit. My lenses have been complex and expensive but Charlotte tries to keep the cost as low as possible when dispensing. I highly recommend this opticians.
Highly recommend Eyes of Swavesey - they really know what they’re doing. When they found my husband had a serious problem with his eye during a routine checkup, they immediately referred him to Addenbrooke’s for treatment - they take eye health very seriously and have all the technology needed to do the full range of tests, An excellent personal service, and lovely friendly staff who take their time to talk about options and help find the perfect frames from a huge range. Great location just off the A14 - I’d never go anywhere else
Always awesome with the whole families eye tests, but especially for our 6 and 8 year old who have been coming to the team for around 18months for their glasses. Beautiful frames and excellent service!!! Nothing is ever too much trouble. We love our trips to you!!
